Captain (Persona). Carola Rakete (L), the captain of the Seawatch 3 NGO vessel, talks with a crew member on board the ship the day before she took the decision to defy Italy’s government and enter the port of Lampedusa despite express orders not to do so. The island can be seen just a mile behind them on the right. There is a lot in this story. Her ship had 40 rescued migrants on board. This was the reason why Italy wouldn’t allow her to land and the reason why she says she had no choice but to land. Law, maritime law, ethics, politics... all converged on the events involving her ship last week. There will be soon a #survivingframe series about it. Before the Decision. What interests me here, and what I find most interesting in general, is how - in all this - a human being, Carola Rakete, the captain, had to take a decision. And took it.
